Questions

What is a room boom?

Bass bounces between your walls. At some notes the reflections stack up, so that note sounds louder and lasts longer than the rest. Acousticians call it a room mode.

Why not headphones or laptop speakers?

Headphones skip the room, so there’s no boom to find. Laptop and phone speakers can’t play deep bass.

How loud should it be?

About as loud as you usually listen. Start low and turn up until the sweep is clear. The tones stay quiet and fade in and out.

Why does the result change when I move?

Booms are stronger in some spots than others. Sit where you normally listen.

Does this fix the boom?

No. A web page can’t change your Mac’s sound. Unboom, the Mac app, turns down just that note in everything your Mac plays on your speakers.

Does it use my microphone?

No. This test only plays sound. Nothing is recorded or sent.
