Microphone

Unboom uses the microphone only while it scans your room, to hear its own bass sweep. The measurement is processed in memory and is never saved or sent anywhere.

Your computer’s audio

To correct what your Mac plays, Unboom uses macOS system audio access. On Windows, it adds an audio effect to the speakers you set up. Audio is corrected in real time and is never recorded, saved, or sent.

Settings on your computer

Your rooms, their corrections, and your preferences are stored on your computer so Unboom can keep working after a restart. Delete Unboom to remove them. On Windows, uninstalling keeps only the trial date and your license key, so a reinstall doesn’t lose them, and Unboom keeps a log of app and audio health on the PC that it never sends.

Diagnostics

If you ask for help, Unboom can copy a diagnostics report to your clipboard. It describes app and audio health, without room names, device names, or recordings. Nothing is sent until you paste it into a message yourself.

Purchases

On a Mac, the free trial and the unlock are handled by Apple through the Mac App Store. We don’t receive your payment details.

On Windows, the free trial is kept on your PC, and the unlock is sold by Polar (polar.sh), which handles payment and emails you a license key. We receive your email address and order, not your payment details. When you enter the key, Unboom sends it to Polar with your PC’s name, so each PC can be told apart. Once a day, it checks the key with Polar. Nothing else is sent.

Updates

On a Mac, updates come from the Mac App Store. On Windows, Unboom asks GitHub once a day whether a newer version is out. The request carries only Unboom’s version number, and GitHub sees your IP address, as any website would. When you choose Update, the installer downloads from GitHub.

This website

unboom.app uses Google Analytics to count visits and understand how the free tools are used, such as starting a Boom Finder sweep. Google Analytics uses cookies and may process device and usage information. We have disabled Google signals and ad personalization, and we do not use the data for advertising. Analytics is disabled when your browser sends Do Not Track.

The free tools play sound in your browser and never use your microphone. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the site secure.
